My experience on the course
As a Digital Education consultant, albeit in the school sector, I can honestly say that the learning and teaching practices on the MSc in Digital Education are exemplary and have inspired my own professional practice.
After being accepted on the programme, I discovered I had much more intellectual potential than I thought and felt liberated by this. I am now studying for my PhD at Edinburgh – that would have been unthinkable before this course.
What I'm doing now
I loved the experience of doing the MSc in Digital Education so much I am now doing my PhD at Edinburgh, again as a distance learner. I'm lucky to have Sian and Hamish as my supervisors. My research is a narrative ethnography exploring how children disengaged from formal learning are engaged and take advantage of the social learning opportunities in multiplayer videogames and whether schools can capitalise on this.
I work part-time as a digital education consultant with schools in South Yorkshire advising teachers how to make the best use of technology in learning and teaching and as an online tutor for A Level English. I’m also doing some work on Minecraft for the MSc in Digital Education, so you come across me at some point. For more information about my professional activities see www.futureclassroom.co.uk
